Yes, in most cases. The majority of our room addition clients stay in their homes throughout construction. We carefully phase the work to minimize disruption, manage dust and noise, and maintain safe access to your kitchen, bathrooms, and bedrooms. The exception is when the existing roof needs to be fully removed for a second-story addition — in which case temporary relocation may be needed for 2–3 weeks.

If you need more space for your family within the main home, a room addition is the right choice. If you want a separate rental unit or independent living space, an ADU is better.

Can I add a second story to my single-story home? expand_more

In most cases, yes. Adding a second story (often called a "pop-top") is our most popular addition type in San Diego. It doubles your living space without reducing your yard. The process requires a structural engineer to evaluate whether your existing foundation can support the added weight, and in some cases the foundation may need to be reinforced.
